I've been rather busy of late and decided I need a break from LJ.

OK, done. Missed me?

The past week has been largely lacking in focus for me. AC/DC was entirely a blur... I think I danced 5 tips the entire weekend, a disappointment for me as I would loved to have had more chances to dance. On the good side, I made a number of recordings of various callers at work and now have much fantastic material for analysis of calls and calling style.

Still, I look back on the weekend and have to admit I didn't really enjoy it for all the additional work needed. I'm sure I'm supposed to take some satisfaction from contributing to a pleasurable dance experience for others but that isn't working for me this time and martyrdom is never becoming.

Relaxing with wonderful guys [livejournal.com profile] apparentparadox and Mark on Sunday evening and Monday was a pleasant rest after the frantic weekend; god, how I love low maintenance house guests. :-)

I was calling Mainstream thru A2 in Baltimore on Tuesday and it turned out to be a somewhat confusing evening for me. In both the calling workshop two weeks ago and Tuesday night's sessions, I was profoundly unsatisfied with my performance. I felt sluggish, uncreative and plodding: I wouldn't hire myself for a gig in that condition. Yet I also received the most compliments yet from various dancers and callers in attendance. Were they just being kind? Is my uncreative & sluggish calling a closer match to the dancers' desires than I perceive? Is there some profound disconnect between my own self-evaluation and reality? If I must err, I prefer it to be in a more harsh self-evaluation than suffering a runaway ego --see my work-related posts for that in action-- but I'd rather have a more precise match between perception & reality.

I slept well last night for the first time in a week. A weekend in a strange bed at the AC/DC hotel wasn't especially restful and [livejournal.com profile] kent4str has had some snoring issues this week. If he was snoring last night, I slept through it; in fact, I slept in a little, somehow turning off my alarm without fully waking up. Another night like that would be very helpful.

Tonight, I have a DC Diamond Circulate IAGSDC 2009 convention meeting. For the most part, it will be routine reporting but I do have the DC sales tax exemption forms for signing and a comp registration from Baltimore for their early May fly-in we can use as a raffle prize (I won it at AC/DC but am already registered to attend).
