I get afflicted with that occasionally. Somehow the idea "oh yes, I need X" gets stuck, and not erased when I purchase X, and so the next time out I again buy more X, lather, rinse, repeat. One time it was peanut butter, another time it was dishwasher detergent (that time I had 10 litres in stock before I finally had the wit to write NO DISHWASHER DETERGENT across the top of my fridge-door shopping list.)
it's not disastrous; (so far) the things I get stuck on are non-perishable and they do get used in the fulness of time. But I do run out of storage space. (I currently have two extra jugs of laundry detergent next to the boots in my front hall closet, for want of anywhere else to put them).
