Ugly Never Lasts
Aug. 1st, 2009 11:33 pmThe morning started ugly. Very, very ugly. My-god-this-entire-universe-sucks ugly.
The problem was simply a severe lack of sleep on my part. A certain someone in the bed next to me snored to varying degrees. Ear plugs didn't help, nor did the pillows piled on top of my head: the vibration of the bed alone kept me awake until 4am. At home, I'd excuse myself to one of the guestrooms or the living room couch but short of booking a second hotel room here in York, PA, my options were limited.
The alarm sounded at 6:45 am. I wasn't a happy camper.
Everyone else went to the local farmers' market for breakfast and some shopping while I finally got a couple of solid hours of restful sleep, but it wasn't enough. Even at lunchtime, I was feeling drained and severely off-balance. Another extended nap in the afternoon did wonders, as did a large ingestion of sugar and caffeine.
Tonight, we went to a thai restaurant a few blocks from our hotel, Esaan (30 N. Beaver Street, York, PA 17401). I heartily endorse this restaurant. It's a small place with only a dozen tables or so but the food was superb, portions sizable and prices very reasonable. We'll be returning to this place for dinners in future visits.
The evening dancing was OK. I wasn't really up for much exertion but I was able to substitute for the occasional tip when someone's partner wasn't immediately on-hand. I picked up a few choreographic ideas while watching and even recorded a few tips for future analysis.
After the dancing wound down at 10:30pm or so, I helped clean up the dance spaces and we brought our calling equipment up to our room so we wouldn't have to meet & coordinate such in the morning when we check out. If I wasn't a little concerned about what extra sugar might do to my sleep cycle right now, I'd be indulging in pie before bed but I'll save that for another time.
