I started cleaning out my larger filing cabinet some time ago but held off on looking into my stash of emergency food supplies.

While it's never happened during my shift, there are a few instances where the weather has turned ugly and our staff have been required to shelter in place because it's too difficult to leave, and to maintain staffing because the following shift can't get to the office.

Last week, I noticed the sealed lunch container of apple sauce was a little past it's best-before date in 2006. I just noticed the pouch of New Orleans style dirty rice with pork expired February of 2007. The tins of chicken breast lunch meat expire in Decmeber of 2007.

There are no dates on the microwave container of chicken & dumplings or the microwavable tray of Marie Callender's chili con carne. The pounches of tuna are good until June of 2009.

The various blends of tea and varieties of miso soup should be good indefinitely, although I can't imagine what I was thinking when I purchased some of the soup as they're a little outside my usual range of tastes.

I suppose I should take this as a sign that I should clean out my desk more often. Or that I should have resigned years ago.

Randi in the cube next to me suggested I gather up the expired food and just leave it in the pantry... depending on the condition of the food, it may become obvious very quickly who might be pilfering others' supplies.
