Square Dance News
Mar. 25th, 2008 11:14 amAs hinted a couple of weeks ago, we now have a venue for our upcoming fall square dance fly-in event.
In prior years, we've used Hilltop House in Harper's Ferry, WV, but they're closing for extensive renovations so we've been forced to search out a new home. The ink is currently drying on our contracts to move the dance festival to Shepherdstown, WV, just a few miles further up the Potomac River from Harper's Ferry. The dates of Nov 7-9, 2008, are unchanged.
As soon as the registration form is agreed upon, we'll be spreading the work more extensively.
Last night's Plus class went well, I think. It was dedicated to reviewing all of the calls to date, about 75% of the overall list. Most work was centered on "follow your neighbor" (getting the trailers to use their inside hand rather than their other hand), "load the boat" (the centers' part needed floor time & drill), "peel the top" (leaders tended to wander off to random area of the hall) and "relay the deucey" (practice, practice, practice).
justetthon is calling Mainstream and class-level Plus this Thursday;
kent4str and I have minor calling gigs with the Indepence Squares' fly-in this weekend where
otterpop58 and
ewe_bull_akr will be calling alongside Dayle Hodge.
The Mid-Atlantic Challenge Association (MACA) has a weekend of dancing in the Baltimore, MD, area this weekend too. Ross Howell will be calling C1 with C2 star tips this Friday & Saturday and C2 with C3A star tips on Sunday afternoon.
