It's official:
kent4str and I will be teaching a Plus class for the
DC Lambda Squares, Mondays 7:30-9:30 PM starting February 4. We'll make some revisions to our notes and materials from last fall's class but we're ready to go.
Coming up before then,
kent4str and I will be co-teaching a new Mainstream class with Dayle Hodge for the
Chesapeake Squares. We've all taught Mainstream previously several times but CS is trying something new for me: a weekend Mainstream boot camp. We're going through the entire list in a Friday evening session, two sessions on Saturday morning & afternoon and a closing Sunday afternoon session. Dayle takes the first two sessions and we'll take the latter two.
I'm uncertain how this will go. I've been in boot camp weekends previously but they were higher dance levels: participants already knew the etiquette, the culture, fundamentals of dancing, whether this was truly something they wanted and, generally, each other. Newbies in a Mainstream class will lack all of these.
Of course, we don't expect expert dancers at the end of a single weekend, just as we wouldn't expect experts out of any other boot camp weekend. This will give them the fundamentals and we'd then have to supplement this experience with intensive club nights, additional workshops and such.
It also doesn't help that the dates were selected without checking
kent4str or myself for availability: we were already booked for Saturday late afternoon & evening for a Washington DC reunion of campers from Roseland Resort. With some minor juggling, we should be able to make this work but it will be a bit more stressful than I was planning.
More news as it develops.
