Ah, Kids

My nephew Daniel (AKA "3 of 6, subunit 1") in Mississauga, Ontario, has his sixth birthday coming up next week so I inquired with his parents about what he's into these days, looking for gift ideas while avoiding accidentally getting him something he already has.

He's apparently enjoying school well enough although the English/French split is causing some minor confusion. I'm sure he'll figure out the language thing very quickly: after all, 50% of Daniel's genetics come from the same general gene pool as myself so he's clearly destined for academic greatness and brilliance, right?

That said, guess what he's keen on for his birthday. Ah, six year old boys and their obsessions. Maybe he'll grow out of it. :-)

I love bananas. Outside of [livejournal.com profile] cuyahogarvr and [livejournal.com profile] kent4str, they're probably my favourite fruit.

Bananas by themselves, banana bread, banana muffins, banana ice cream... it's all wonderful.

I generally prefer my chocolate uncontaminated with misc fruit flavourings but I make an exception for bananas. Bananas dipped in dark chocolate fondue, chocolate chips in banana muffins... Mmmmm.

OK, the carbon footprint for importing them is astronomical, but since I don't drink coffee --another huge carbon offender-- I don't feel too bad.

Just sayin'.

As I write this, [livejournal.com profile] rlegters should be on his flight back to Seattle. It's been fun having him living with us the past few days while he was in town for work-related training. In many ways, he's the perfect guest: relatively quiet, undemanding, self-maintaining and had his own vehicle. :-) We wish [livejournal.com profile] tdjohnsn could have come with him but we'll have to make up for that at some future time.

[livejournal.com profile] kent4str isn't home from work yet so I have the house to myself for a little while longer. I like having the alone time periodically but I've become so used to having [livejournal.com profile] cuyahogarvr, [livejournal.com profile] kent4str or, this week at least, [livejournal.com profile] rlegters around that I'm suddenly acutely aware of being alone. Not a problem, just a novel sensation.
