Even when my best-laid plans go straight through the wood chipper --such as our recent unplanned visit to Buffalo, NY-- I can usually find some way to distract myself from looming disaster. More often than not, I amuse myself by taking photos of any hot men in my proximity.

If that's shallow, then let's go shopping... )

Our trip to Cleveland two weeks ago also gave me some good subject material. My only regret is that I had to abuse my optical zoom excessively to take photos discretely.

We were off to the trailer at Roseland Resort, WV, this past weekend.

Outbound traffic Friday afternoon was moderate --I was expecting much worse. [livejournal.com profile] jearbear65oh & David were going to join us as soon as they could get away from Columbus, OH; [livejournal.com profile] cuyahogarvr was planning to depart Cleveland around 4 PM or so. The net effect is that [livejournal.com profile] kent4str and I had the late afternoon and early evening to ourselves (and largely spent it unpacking the vast quantities of food brought for the weekend).

The weather was more or less perfect for the weekend. It was, of course, much too hot for my tastes, especially on Monday, but the others were quite happy with the excesses of sunlight, ultraviolet radiation and heat.

Because of the pleasant weather --and in spite of it-- we managed to get some minor trailer work done. We had previously planned to replace the bottom step of the stairs from our deck but did a redesign of it during our last visit. The step was originally composed of a couple of paving stones and cinder blocks; we had originally planned a small step of a wooden box filled with gravel and topped with paving stone. We finally ended with more of a landing than a step. I'd still prefer a rail or bannister to prevent items (or people) from stepping/falling directly off the landing into road traffic but others feel it is more useful to have unencumbered access to take large food & drink coolers up the stairs.

David had long planned to plant some shrubs and trees around the trailer as well, providing some aesthetics to an otherwise bare grassy hill. He was able to get agreement from all for an arrangement of shrubs along the roadside below the deck, we had difficulty coming up with a plan for the uphill side of the trailer which wouldn't potentially block, say, the black water pump-out access or interfere with the buried water and electrical lines.

Rose Hill is also getting a little crowded these days. The trailers to the west of us have also built large decks for their sites and have recently changed hands. The new owners are much more active in decorating their decks, covering them with screens, adding patio sets and the like. This isn't a problem for us, but it does make the view to the west from us seem a little more cluttered when all is aligned.

We've also been spoiled in that the site to the east of us has been empty since we moved into site Rose Hill #260. No more. A small trailer now occupies that site and they will likely have a deck added this fall.

One of the things I like most about Roseland is that it's relatively pet-friendly. Yes, critters must be leashed when out for walkies, but I enjoy meeting the dogs as much as their humans when they're out on patrol.

The Resort management held a major party on the pool deck Saturday night using a cruise ship theme. Food and beverages were flowing freely, the DJ played music until late into the evening and, to my knowledge, no one feel into the pool and drowned. My photos can't do justice to the decorations but it was a great presentation. )
