Sure, I'll be a sheep for this one. I've been wearing glasses since age 8, so corrective eyewear is a common part of my life. I usually wear contacts --I dated a optometrist in 1992 who insisted I give them a try-- but get out my glasses periodically when I'm feeling lazy or want to rest my corneas.

Snow!

There was a light dusting last night but the threat it would get worse was sufficient to cancel last night's C1 dancing in College Park. I was hoping to wake up to climatic ugliness this morning to justify sleeping in and telecommuting, but it was not to be: the wet snow which didn't melt immediately was inconsequential so I'm at work per usual.

More snow has been falling all morning however. The surrounding counties which didn't cancel school entirely are now announcing early closures. If the precipitation accelerates, I may consider heading home a little early to avoid a rush hour of enhanced ugliness; our dinner plans with a friend might have to be cancelled.

Postscript: The Chesapeake Squares just announced they are cancelling tonight's club night. Dayle Hodge was scheduled to call so my plans are unaffected. I suspect there will be other cancellations through the course of the day.

I just noticed that my second posting of yesterday was my 1,000th posting to LJ.

Hmm.

The 512 MB SoDIMM for my iMac (15" flat screen, 800 MHz) arrived this afternoon.

According to everything I read, I should simply be able to pop out the 256 MB DIMM in the easily accessed socket in the bottom of the iMac and insert the newer 512 MB DIMM: the memory should be recognized instantly when the machine boots.

No such luck. The machine only recognizes 256 MB of the new 512 MB DIMM; with the already installed 256 MB DIMM in the internal slot, my machine still has only 512 MB instead of a proper total of 768 MB.

I'm still searching Google for ideas as to what might be happening and/or how to fix it, but my suspicion is that the installed DIMM isn't actually appropriate for this architecture. It's that or the beast doesn't like mixed density RAM.

Any ideas? I'm open to any suggestions.
