I'm on a work-related conference call at the moment. For reasons which evade me, the other participants desperately wanted someone from my UNIX team to attend. Since I'm the only person from my team in the office at the moment, I got nominated by my director. Fantastic.

Anyway, since there's nothing for me to contribute to the meeting and nothing I need to record to take back to my missing team members, I'll just write in LJ.

Monday's mainstream square dance class went well. Kent had a DC Different Drummers production meeting to attend so I was teaching solo. As well, two members were absent and one who had missed the prior session had returned. I let go of my original plan to instead give only a couple new calls and spend the bulk of the time in review & practice.

The new calls were "pass the ocean," "extend" and "swing thru." Since they've already been doing "step to a wave" and various right-handed & left-handed partner trades, these new calls were minor extensions of things they already knew so it wasn't a great leap. Those who missed this week will be able to catch up quickly.

Last night's club night in Baltimore was OK. We started late as we didn't have enough dancers until almost 20 minutes into the night, but we did have enough for a rare A2 tip. Not one of my great evenings, no where near the bottom of the list either: I fear my mental fatigue was showing but I think accumulated experience has given me enough of a safety net to save me from the embarrassment of a complete failure. At least I finished the night on a high note with a kick-ass singing call and wrapping up precisely on schedule.

My MS and Plus figures weren't especially novel or challenging but I think competently called; clearly, however, my A2 is much harder than it should be. I have already started redrafting my A2 material into a much simplified form, but I still have a lot of material to rewrite and very little spare time in which to do it. Perhaps it would be a better use of time to simply write fresh material, keeping it simple from the start. I wish I had more calling time with A2 so I could get up to sight-calling the lot but that's not going to happen in the near future.

At the moment, my body is crying for more sleep but I'm in back-to-back conference calls and meetings until at least 4 PM and I have a must-attend C1 workshop tonight. sigh
