bjarvis: (DC Lambda Squares)
Class #3 last night went very well, much like the prior classes.

The new dancers continue to absorb everything they're given like a sponge. I was afraid [livejournal.com profile] kent4str and I would still be brain-dead from this past weekend's C1 sessions but we were actually in reasonable form overall.

This class, we covered:

  • lead right/left
  • bend the line
  • partner trade
  • grand square
  • star thru
  • walk around the corner/see saw

Now that they're comfortable with the dance space and each other, we're making the breaks between tips closer to five minutes in length rather than ten. I think we're far enough along to implement singing calls next week although we may push it one more week.

The new dancers voted and have opted for a class on Columbus Day next Monday so we can't attend [livejournal.com profile] justetthon's C1 club night but we'll find another window some time in future.

Catching Up

Because of yet another onslaught of Sarb-Ox compliance stuff at work --which will last until at least this Friday--, teaching classes on Saturdays & Mondays and coordinating the recent C1 boot camp weekend, I've been falling behind on a great number of little tasks. Things like correspondence, paying bills and sleeping.

Fortunately, tonight and tomorrow night are clear on our calendar. All letters are now written, sealed & stamped and will go into the post tomorrow. Bills are now caught up. While I've caught up on responding to e-mail, Earthlink seems to beholding my outgoing messages for later processing; I've used some convoluted methods to get most e-mail out but a larger batch waits for delivery.

The DC Lambda Squares web site & domain name continues to be down but there's nothing much I can do about that. Our web guy will be back from Barcelona this week and I'm confident he'll get it straightened out quickly. I suppose with a little work, I could have dipped my toes into the water to see what I could do but frankly, my plate is already full and I just didn't want to get involved in yet another project.

[livejournal.com profile] tdjohnsn and [livejournal.com profile] rlegters have their airline tickets to come to DC for our Harper's Ferry Hoedown in mid-November... yay! Haven't seen them since July and I'm long overdue for my Seattlite fix. :-)

My aunt, recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, is resting at home, building up her strength for surgery in another week or so. No change in status so I'm cautiously optimistic.

I still need a haircut --badly-- and my car needs its 60,000 mile servicing. I also have 50 newsletters from our local civic association to deliver to residents along my street. I have no idea when I'll be able to fit any of these into my schedule, but I'll think of something.
