Yesterday (Saturday) was a lot of fun but had some long hours.
Despite sleeping well Friday night/Saturday morning, I was groggy through the morning and early afternoon. This wasn't a good thing as we were teaching the Chesapeake Squares' new mainstream class 1-4 PM. Fortunately, sugar & caffeine kept me artificially perky for the duration of the class.
The class itself went very well. We have five newbies, all of which are absorbing the material rather quickly. With only a couple of minor hiccups, they recalled last week's material without extensive workshopping. We did throw a lot of new material at them rather quickly through the afternoon but they didn't show any signs of maxing out until close to the end when we were largely wrapping up.
I fell asleep in the car on the drive home (no, I wasn't driving) and felt much refreshed following. While I was catching up on e-mail, Dayle called during a break from his A2/C1 calling in New York City to ask if I could send our C1 boot camp flyer to a few particular e-mail addresses, all Times Squares folks who hadn't heard about the event. I dutifully e-mailed flyers and info to the listed people. There was also an e-mail from Norma in Philadelphia asking the same thing, which leads me to wonder what happened to all of the flyers I snail-mailed to each club.
A number of people have expressed an interest but have not yet committed (ie. sent in a check to hold a spot). I have twelve participants who have committed: I have perhaps another dozen who have expressed interest but not yet confirmed. If everyone shows up we will exceed the 20 body limit we had self-imposed on the event; I have no reason to believe that every single person will actually follow through, of course. Still, it would be an indication of a potential market and thus we may consider restaging this again some time in future (modified appropriately depending on the outcome of this particular venture).
We went to a square dance first-nighter, a joint event with Warren Jaquith calling for DC Lambda Squares and Equality Montgomery County. It was a small affair --about two squares-- but it was good outreach and I think we may have piqued the interest of a number of people who might come join us our upcoming Monday night dances or some future series. The night did run rather long, 7:30-10:30 PM, particularly as I was still in a somewhat faded state... memo to self: 2.5 hours max.
Despite feeling tired, I was still awake past 1 AM. I did knock off some required reading though and caught up on laundry. Still, I should have been a bit cleverer about getting my ass to bed.
