Jul. 3rd, 2006

This was the last day of the convention. There were a couple of morning dance session but I didn't particularly feel like dancing much... my feet have had enough battery over the past few days. Instead, our day largely began with the annual meeting & brunch.

Usually, the brunch is a sit-down meal in the main ballroom, but it was a buffet this year. I was a little concerned about the lines and time required to serve everyone, but by opening the lines just before noon and letting people fill their plates on their own, progress was relatively smooth.

As usual, the brunch included the annual general membership meeting. Since there were no adjustments to by-laws or the like, this portion went pretty quickly; the bulk of the time was consumed by presentations for the 2007 and 2008 conventions, as well as financial reports from the Petersen Fund and promos for the All Join Hands Foundation.

I spent a little time in the A2 hall following brunch, then stuck around for Todd Fellegy's "Intro to C1" session. I'd danced "swing the fractions" before, but "tally ho" was entirely new to me, as was the concentric concept. Our square was almost entirely successful... as one might guess, it was the MS and Plus calls which crashed us as we were primed by the new calls to overthink everything. Figures.

Kent & I attended the convention planners meeting 4-6 PM with various other members from our club. The meeting went a little long on what I considered irrelevant details, but there were some useful gems.

We later had dinner at Cafe Del Sol with [livejournal.com profile] dr_scott & [livejournal.com profile] excessor; it was not only a delightful dinner getting to know them better, it occurred to me later that it was also the first time we had actually eaten at one of the hotel restaurants.

Closing ceremonies were rather low-key: there were a few thank-yous and acknowledgements, a drawing for a laptop computer (a fundraiser for the Cleveland convention) and a little more square dancing. I was content to snap more photos and start the long process of saying our good-byes.

The four of us piled in with other friends in the lobby of the Marriott for cocktails, conversation and long good-byes from 10 PM until 1 AM. We had a late check-out on Wednesday but some folks were departing very early Wednesday: they're going to have a very rough time getting up a few hours later. :-)
