Unexpected Productivity
May. 13th, 2006 04:31 pmI usually spend Saturdays sleeping until the crack of noon. For no particularly good reason, however, I was tossing & turning in bed all night and was still restless at 8 AM. Since my body wanted to be so active despite my brain being barely functional, it seemed logical to let the body have its way with me, so to speak.
Kent was helping a friend move for the entire morning so I got myself dressed & dashed into downtown DC for a couple of minor errands. That finished, I made myself a lunch of the leftover pulled pork bbq in the fridge, then started cleaning. And cleaning. And cleaning.
The master bathroom now sparkles: the tub, sink & toilet are shiny, the floor is mopped, and the mirrors & window are spotless. The kitchen floor and the front entrance have been mopped. (I still need to do something with the shower curtain.) The living room, master bedroom and hallway are vacuumed. Linens from our bed and the bed in the smaller guestroom were laundered and towels in all bathrooms and the kitchen were all replaced with fresh ones.
At the moment, sweaters which are going into storage for the summer are in a "hand wash" cycle in the washing machine.
I've also gone through my closet & dresser, pulling out shoes, pants, socks and shirts to go into two piles: Goodwill and garbage. I've also jettisoned a somewhat dated sports jacket I haven't worn in 15 years and the suit in which I graduated from high school 20 years ago; they both still fit, but are a bit more snug around the shoulders. In any case, they're perfectly fine but should move on to someone who will use them more frequently. Kent & I bought new suits last Tuesday anyway: we should be able to pick them up from the tailor some time Monday or Tuesday of next week. We'd been talking about it long enough and as Kent is the designated mourner for his clan* , it seemed the thing to do at long last.
I still need to vacuum the basement rec room and there's a tonne of accumulated paper, magazines and other such stuff in the living room which needs to be sorted & disposed of, but that can wait for tomorrow: I've had enough for today. Time to go sit on my ass.
* Kent's parents, sister & brother live in Florida, Ohio & Oregon respectively, so if there is any event involving his extended family tree in this area (usually funerals), Kent typically attends on behalf of his family.
