I don't have anything particularly interesting to write here today.

For the most part, you've heard it all before:

  • my spare brain cycles are being expended on square dance-related stuff: transcribing recordings from the past weekend for study, composing more A2 material, rehearsing singing calls, etc.;
  • work is driving me nuts with a number of vaguely defined projects, but at least several existing projects are almost complete;
  • I'll learn what --if any-- bonus & raise I can expect for the balance of the year some time before the end of next week;

There are a number of things I suppose I should be thankful for... neither my house nor car are in need of expensive repairs and that has enabled me time to worry about the above-mentioned headaches. While I've been under some stress, it has been manageable and not health-threatening in any way. On the whole, the worst I have to complain about is that the Powerball jackpot to a bunch of workers in a ham processing plant in Nebraska instead of me. Which isn't really all that bad.

A relatively new square dancer asked me the following question tonight:
How do you politely deal with someone who wishes to be your dance partner but makes you exceedingly uncomfortable?

I suggested pre-emptively ensuring you have a partner already arranged for the upcoming tip but this ducks the issue rather than dealing with it. Likewise choosing to sit out a tip rather than dance with the objectionable party is inadequate: one shouldn't have to sacrifice one's own participation in an event just because of one individual.

Thoughts?
