Andy-rama Day #1

otterpop58 at the airport was a snap. His flight was on time, he had no checked baggage and we were on the road almost instantly. Sort of. On the way out of the airport, we sat second in line for almost 10 minutes while the parking attendant and the minivan in front of us were doing... something. I suspect the cash register system was down. I could have pressed the issue that we were still in our no-fee parking window since we had gone over the half-hour limit while sitting in line waiting for the attendant to fix his problem, but ultimately just paid the $4 (exact change to ensure no further problems) and drove for Maryland.
Once back at the house I caught a quick nap while
otterpop58 updated LJ, caught up on e-mail and prepped for the evening's C1 dance. As soon as Kent returned from work, we were on the road for exciting Columbia, MD!
Columbia actually wasn't supposed to be exciting... the directions described only how to approach the community center from the east (I95) but we were approaching from the west (Rt 29). My print-out from Google maps didn't help as we missed a street sign in the darkness and we ended up on the wrong end of the loop that is Cradlerock Drive. Still, we found the place with time to spare.
In all, there were five squares of C1 dancing that night. While Kent & I can't dance that level, we stuck around to observe and generally be supportive of both
otterpop58 and those who organized the event. We had about 5 people from DC Lambda Squares and surprisingly none from Ett Ceteras or Chesapeake Squares.
Being somewhat more senior dancers, they definitely moved slower than the crowd with which I usually dance. Some had difficulty on A2 calls which most of my dancing friends would have handled (eg. less common variations of chain reaction, motivate, etc.) but clearly a handful were just not up to the challenge (so to speak) or were distracted by physical ailments (hearing issues, mobility problems, etc.). At any given time though it seemed that at least 80% of the floor was moving well so I'd call the evening a success.
More importantly, I also blatantly plagiarized some choreo ideas into my Palm. If I had a grad student or a grant, I could call it research. :-)
After returning home, we watched Stargate SG1, programmed the VCR to catch the repeats of Stargate Atlantis & Battlestar Galactica and headed for bed. As I write this, I'm feeling more rested than I have in two weeks.
