A2 Calling Workshop Success!
Jan. 8th, 2006 10:12 pmSaturday's calling workshop went pretty well I think.
In all, Kent & I called three tips with Dayle carefully monitoring & coaching during breaks. I have a lovely new set of new 3x5 cards covered with near-illegible notes lovingly assembled by our coach. I'll work on deciphering them tomorrow. We'll be calling again on Tuesday at Baltimore's club night so we'll see how much I've properly internalized & implemented.
I was quite surprised at our turn-out. In prior workshops, we had about a dozen dancers volunteering as checkers. This time out, we had almost 20 initially, although we lost a few after the first hour. I'm not sure how to interpret the numbers: either we have many more people willing to act as checkers for A2 dancing, or our friends are more comfortable with our calling ability than they were a year ago. Or, the economy tanked when I wasn't looking and most of my friends are desperately seeking a meal of any kind so the lunch buffet we offered was suddenly very attractive. Can't say for sure.
We don't have a date set yet for the next workshop, but Dayle, Kent, members of the Chesapeake Squares board and me have a dinner meeting Tuesday night to plan upcoming calling gigs, open houses and the next Mainstream class schedule. Busy, busy...
