The Day Spirals Downward...
Nov. 15th, 2005 08:48 amActually, my day started spiraling downward last evening. I was prepared to hand off my shift as Unix primary point-of-contact to the night shift when I learned that my nighttime counterpart would be in late because of a family emergency. I didn't think anything of it since problems rarely crop up until automatic reboots begin at midnight, but this time, I was blessed with a hard drive failure on a production server.
Again, this isn't a big deal since we have redundant disks. I could just log in, confirm the issue, set up a service call and get the disk replaced. Alas, scheduled maintenance at work shut off our VPN access so I had to telephone around to various offices to find someone I could walk through the required steps.
Eventually, all was resolved but it was very much past my usual late bedtime.
In the middle of it all, at least I had a chance to call my mom to wish her a happy 60th birthday.
I woke up this morning with a slight headache and nasal drip. By the time I got to the office, my eyes and neck began to hurt too. It appears I'm coming down with a cold. Yay.
I'm going to go across the street to the CVS to get a box of kleenex and any chemical combinations which can hold me together for the remainder of the day. Club night in Baltimore ce soir is looking very iffy.
