bjarvis: (family)
My sister Irene (3 of 6), her hubby, mother-in-law and two children are visiting for the week while Ted is in training over in Laurel, MD. We spent a lot of time with them on Monday but they're largely on their own the rest of this week while I'm at the office. The kids are adorable: Daniel is 4 years old and full of energy, while Ashley is 7 months old and is unfortunately not taking too well to her disrupted schedule. At times she's delightfully giggly but other times she seems frustrated, upset and generally pissed off. The travel has upset her sleep schedule and I suspect she's teething soon. I've done my best to keep Ashley entertained and distracted to give her mother a break, but am thankful that I do have the option of passing her back to mom when she's inconsolable. Irene has been remarkably patient at tending to her every need at any hour of the day or night.

I've been using the basement bathroom each morning now as the main upstairs bath is immediately adjacent to the guest room; if Ashley has just dozed off, I'm not going to be the one to wake her up as I prep for work.

Yesterday's long rain kept most everyone housebound for the day. Hopefully, today's better weather will let them spend some time exploring the greater DC area.

I was largely psyched up for calling in Baltimore last night, but unbeknownst to me, the evening was already sabotaged last Sunday afternoon.

I just called [livejournal.com profile] otterpop58's cell phone to see how things are down in his neighbourhood. He and roomie Brian are well, although they've lost numerous trees and are without electricity and telephone lines. The power may require a couple of weeks for restoration. As soon as possible, he'll get online to post & update but I'm sure he has more important tasks on his agenda at the moment.
