Someone needs to sell your CIO on the benefits of Novell eDirectory and Novell Identity Manager.
eDirectory is a global directory service that runs on Linux, Unix, Solaris, Windows, NetWare, and several other *nix variants I can't remember at the moment.
Identity Manager allows for automatic synchronization of accounts, passwords, and other identity information between different systems, non-federated directory trees, etcetera. And it includes a password self-service facility for people who forget their passwords. :)
Because I'm a total GEEK, that's why.
