It is a bit of a culture shock, isn't it. When I first started dancing with straight clubs, it was at the singles clubs, and I was WARMLY welcomed as a returning-home type of son and never had a lack of dance partners.
But you're right, it is hard to gauge if you'll be able to find a partner at a couples dance. And I was confused the first time I did computer squares, since it's definitely not keyed to singles.
Glad it was a good experience though! I'm assuming you danced the gent part! ;-)
