Almost two weeks ago, I received a 512 MB SoDIMM for my iMac. At the time, the iMac would only recognize 256 MB of the new card; a call to technical support concluded the programmable logic of the chip was incorrectly reporting the SoDIMM's capacity to the system. [livejournal.com profile] kent4str sent the SoDIMM to the manufacturer the following day for me.

This afternoon, a replacement SoDIMM was waiting for me on the front porch when I returned home from work. Installing it in the iMac, it is recognized as 512 MB. Combined with the prior 256 MB->512 MB DIMM replacement, my wee machine is now maxed out at 1 GB of RAM. Yay!

Now to see if it actually works significantly faster than before.

I still need a replacement 512 MB DIMM for my XP box to take it to a max 1 GB of RAM but I doubt the machine will see much of a performance increase as RAM wasn't the primarily bottleneck.
