bjarvis: (DC Lambda Squares)

I haven't exactly found a vast pool of A2 dancers in DC clamoring for a C1 class. I didn't get a much better response from a smaller group in Baltimore last night. While there are a handful who are keen on it, there are vastly more who have simply responded with something akin to "hell will freeze over when I tackle C1." OK...

This evening, I put out a note promoting the possible class to the DC Lambda Squares e-mail list and forwarded a copy to the secretary of Chesapeake Squares to circulate on their list. We'll see what happens but I'm losing my optimism.

In chatting with Ett this evening, she proposed a possible alternative if there aren't enough bodies to justify a regular class: she's willing to run a concentrated all-day course on a couple of weekends. Such a format would greatly ease the strain on her very limited spare time, and while no graduate of this workshop would be a great C1 dancer, at least we minimally competent to dance in gentle C1 tips until we get up to par.

I'm starting to listen to Mike Jacobs' 25 cassette tape C1 course, just for interest's sake. These tapes have been sitting unused & unloved in the DCLS archives (ie. our attic) for a couple of years... let's see what's on them.

I've set a deadline of May 1 for assembling enough competent A2 dancers for a regular C1 course. If we can't get 10-12 folks by then, I'll shelve that particular project and we start fleshing out the alternatives.

In other news, I won another set of 20 records of square dance music (ESP) on eBay for $20 yesterday. Hopefully, there will be a few singing calls among the lot I can use.

Have you tried to tap into any of the local straight clubs for possible C1 class members? I'm not sure how well the clubs over there get along. Out here, the straight & gay clubs mesh pretty well together.

Kudos to you for using the Mike Jacobs' tapes. I'm always impressed with people who use their resources. If you haven't already gotten it, the Ceder Chest for C1/C2 is great.
