Ow.

At some point yesterday evening, I did something evil to my lower back & butt. There is a shooting pain down the left side of my back, from just below my left kidney to six inches below my waist. Aspirin & laying flat on a hot pad all of last night helped a great deal but the pain is still there so I've opted to work from home today: driving is not a good idea currently, I want to be able to drop everything if this gets any worse.

I'm still a little mystified about what I did to make my body rebel in such a fashion. The only insult to my metabolism in the past few days was a conference call yesterday which offended my sense of the value of my time, and a very large chocolate ice cream, chocolate chips, chocolate brownie & chocolate syrup delight known as "chocolate devotion" at Cold Stone Creamery Sunday evening. While the decadence of it all may have had some negative metabolic karma, it tasted heavenly enough to offset even this current inconvenience even as I'm immobilized in my computer room. I regret nothing.

In any case, I can still keep up with my regular appointments and scheduled work from here and I'm sure the others on my team won't hesitate to page/e-mail/IM me as needed. With a little luck, I might catch up on some writing some much-needed documentation for two projects as well as laundry. Lemons, lemonade.

Sounds like you pulled either an oblique or a lat and possibly a glute which pinched a nerve. Sharp pain usually is a pinched nerve. It could also be taht you twisted wrong and your lower errectors pinched a nerve right at your spine.

I'd see a massage therapist. If it persists I'd see a Dr. as well to make sure a disk isn't damaged.

And I hope you feel better soon!

You and your back pain, I had a migrane that thankfully didn't linger in the early morning hours while trying to sleep. Even made just a bit queasy and yes, I did "up" it into the trash can. :-)

The headache is better now but still there. Another two Ibuprofentm and now some coffee should help.

And I meant to also say, hope feel better soon! :-)

Sciatica is not pretty.

Sounds like it might mess up your weekend plans!

Bite your tongue! I shall be in PA for square dancing this weekend although if this continues, my dancing may well be curtailed.

Joy of joys, I'm supposed to be calling tonight... I may have to do it from a comfortable chair or stool.

I recommend using ice, not heat on your lower back. It has always worked for me in various such afflictions and is what most Physical Therapists, Trainers, and Chiropractors recommend.

Sitting down might be the worst aggravater.

I find sitting hasn't been painful, and standing hasn't been painful: switch transitions from one to the other, however, hurts like hell. As long as I move slowly, I'm OK.

That sounds very familiar. Yes, ice does help. Sitting down for long uninterrupted periods is a bad idea.

Ow. Just...ow.

Ouch, sorry to hear about that. :( I suffere from back pain, too. Some of mine may be mitigated by strecthing, but an MRI showed some stuff down there that you can't just stretch out.

Hope you get to feeling better real soon!

I'm in much better shape today than yesterday... the stretching helped immensely. Thanks for the kind thoughts!
