22 Years Ago Today...
...my house burned to the ground.
I was in high school at the time, just beginning a new semester in grade 10. I came home with a typewriter I signed out from school so that I could work on re-writing & editing articles for an edition of the school newspaper, and arrived at the farm to find a black smoking crater where my house used to be.
Undaunted, I set up the typewriter in the barn with my notes and completed the newpaper edition on time that night.

The good news of the story is that we were already in the process of building a new house nearby so while all of us were suddenly homeless --us kids were boarded by various neighbours in the community-- the insurance money vastly accelerated the construction. We were all back together again in the new house by April.
