Two-For-One

Today, I had my hair cut. No big deal that. Today, I also finally made a concession to the fact I'm now middle-aged: I bought reading glasses.

Here I am, trimmed & capable of reading fine print:

I had an eye exam earlier this year; since my prescription had changed somewhat, I purchased a new pair of glasses and new contact lenses. The glasses have been working very well but I have noticed that while wearing the contact lenses, I haven't been able to read small print clearly. My optometrist recommended getting 1.00 level reading glasses to supplement my contacts but I didn't think it was all that important.

This morning, while attempting to pay bills, I couldn't easily discern a 6 from an 8. Ultimately, I had to use my blackberry to take a photo of the numbers and zoom in on the image to make it large enough for me to read on the screen. The time of denial was over: reading glasses were required.

While out on errands this morning, I stopped by CVS to see what they had on hand, and selected a pair which weren't too ugly.

At least I can get reimbursement from my medical savings account.

It's Ask-Me-Anything time again this month. Go ahead... ask me anything you'd like!

Your hazel eyes look very green in this photo! Very nice!

I feel an odd compulsion to sit in a rocking chair on the front porch...

Yup, although I've worn glasses all my life pretty much but 2 years ago, had to go with progressive lenses, now my prescrip is a bit strong since then. :-(

I may be a tad older than you as well.

Oh, great - now we'll have four different kinds of glasses to confuse. The only ones that'll be easy are your near-sighted ones. But then I use 1.0 reading glasses, too, so I guess we can trade them.

But mine are more stylish.

I have always had great difficulty with numbers that involve more than three adjacent iterations of the same digit. 100 is easy, 1000 is fine, 10000 is usually okeh if I'm wide awake, but 100000 or 6111137 means I have to put my finger up to the screen or page and cover the whole lot of them, then uncover and count them one by one. I can't begin to imagine how much harder this will grow as I age.

But enough about me. Let's get you a cane to brandish at those damn kids who keep cutting across your lawn.

the ask-me-anything link gives a screen with a winking goat telling me access is denied. conflicting messages there.
