Experimentation

In a desperate (and perhaps even pitiful) attempt to become more current with modern online social media, I've finally succumbed signed up with Twitter.

If you're interested in following me there, I'm "@bajarvis".

This is actually part of a larger project about which I'll write more at a future date.

Let's see: LJ, FB, Loopt, Twitter... anything in particular I'm missing?

Please let me know if you figure out what the point/purpose of Twitter is.

I have my own preconceptions & early impressions about Twitter but I'm watching to learn more about how others are using it.

I don't get the 'Loopt' one. All I see there are very infrequent FB posts that you are at X location.

Hmmm... not necessarily what I was thinking of for my particular project, but I'll keep them in mind. :-)

no, you were right the first time. succumbed. joined the borg.

Here's a clip that explains it all. People randomly shouting into the void.

most things that are worth saying are more than 140 characters long.

Yes, definitely. Which means, logically, that Twitter isn't a good tool for such things. LJ is much better for detailed exposition, FB for more media-centered sharing and Twitter for very brief updates. And there's a place for telephone calls, hand-written letters, email, cocktails with appetizers, and tupperware parties. It's about the right tool & environment for the right occasion.

LinkedIn may still have some value.

Fazebook (not to be confused with Facebook)
