This morning, I trimmed my beard to a much shorter length than I've had since I grew it back up from a goatee.
I'm still toying with trimming it shorter and/or possibly going back to a goatee. The moustache will remain its current length --or longer if it would just grow in more evenly.

(Anonymous) 2010-09-07 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)The length isn't bad, and you seem to have good coverage. Personally, I think the full-beard looks good on you, but the van dyke (moustache + chin is not a goatee) is also nice.

The downside of the full beard currently is that the upper jaw line and chin are bright white while the middle jaw is dark. In most photographs, it looks like I have some bizarre mutton chop look going on, something which really isn't my style at all.
I'm still toying with taking the sides off entirely for another year or so until the full chin area goes white.
Such weighty decisions... :-)

the odd thing for you, I would say, is not the middle-dark region, its that your moustache is pale enough to disappear completely in many photos (especially teeny 100-pixel-high ones), so I think the longer (and more visible) moustache looks very good on you.
Just don't dye the moustache in a bad way. A friend of mine does - he's completely grey now, except for this moustache that looks as if he's taken boot-black to his upper lip. He looks like Groucho Marx. I'm sure we can rely on you to avoid such traps.

That, or I'll just say my fur grows thicker & whiter in winter for extra camouflage against the snow.
