Not At All Surprised
Wingnuts Who Watch ‘Colbert Report’ Don’t Know It’s Satire
I'm not especially surprised to hear of this. I enjoy "The Daily Show" and "Colbert Report" a great deal but I know people who can't stand either because the shows skewer a lot of sacred cows.
I stopped watching "All in the Family" many years back because it was too uncomfortable. Too many of the people in my area of the continent didn't get that Archie Bunker was a caricature: he was a folk hero to them, voicing the truths they held dear. I can only assume they misunderstood the audience laughter as whoops of support. *sigh*

I don't find Colbert particularly amusing, so I don't watch him (Jon Stewart, on the other had, I quite like).
But those who take it as fact should take Jon's words (to ??tucker carlson??) to heart: "my programme airs on Comedy Central. It doesn't pretend to be a news show."
