Another Computer Resurrected!
This past week, I had two nonfunctional computers at home. My XP desktop suffered some sort of registry corruption; I fixed that a couple of days ago. My Sony Vaio had a failed power supply so I had no means of recharging the battery; naturally, I only discovered this when the battery was effectively drained.
There were files I wished to copy from the laptop so I attempted to transplant its hard drive into a different chassis. That effort failed when I discovered the Vaio's drive had a SATA interface and I had no other machine equipped with SATA. Figures.
In any case, yesterday afternoon, the replacement power supply I purchased from eBay arrived. My now-reassembled laptop is happily working with the new supply and I've made a complete backup of the system, just in case. There is joy once again in Maryland.
Now the more irksome problem: this is the third power supply I've purchased for this laptop in less than one year. Either I've had a really bad run, Sony is making/distributing crappy power supplies or they just don't travel well at all.
Has anyone else out there with a Sony Vaio of any model had problems with their power supply?

I'm considering a laptop purchase soon, and I'd considered the Vaio, but I don't know if the price differential is worth it for what I need; especially if it has hardware problems. I just want to buy something before XP becomes a non-option. Anyway, I'll watch what you learn about the Vaio here.

At least the unreliable component seems to be external to the laptop itself and easily replaced.

You should buy a Mac. ;-)
