Miscellaneous Notes

Since I've been largely bedridden and too damn lazy to get my wireless laptop from the basement, I haven't posted much of late. Here's a few things which have been rattling around in the vacuum inside my skull...

Thanks to this cold, I've had no appetite whatsoever while still furiously burning calories to maintain an elevated body temperature. In fact, I've lost 10 lbs in three days. Not the way I wanted to lose the extra but it's done: now I just have switch to keeping it off.

Thinking of buying real estate in Arlington, VA? A friend of mine is selling his one-bedroom condo to upgrade to a two-bedroom unit in the same building. Click for details.

My aunt Mary passed away last night after a long and protracted battle with cancer. My father's oldest sister, I believe she was 88 years of age. My contact with Dad's side of the family has been sparse at best for the entirety of my life so her passing doesn't affect me much, but it is a reminder that my options for establishing any sort of relationship with Dad's family tree are fading fast, if I ever chose to exercise them.

I'm not planning to return to Canada for the funeral: my cold would simply infect the other 100+ people on the plane trip both ways, not to mention trigger a potentially fatal epidemic among my most elderly remaining relatives.

Well, I can tell you're in a good mood... and that building in Arlington seems familiar.

As for viral infection as a weight-loss plan, it tend to be catabolic (meaning you lose muscle, not fat), so less than ideal. Get well soon.

Yup, that's the same building. Jay is looking for bigger digs.

I hadn't thought I had lost any weight at all until I noticed this morning I lost a notch on my belt. Only then did I think to hop on the scales. In any case, I'm feeling famished at the moment so I've just put some chicken strips in the oven as a snack.

Yeah!!! HUNGER is a GOOD thing in this case. I always feel like I'm turning the bend with an illness when hunger sets in. And don't worry, with the upcoming birthday celebration, we'll find a way to put the weight back on you (and maybe me too).

I'm glad you're feeling better.

you realise, of course, that "keeping it off" may have deleterious effects on the level of chocolate sundae consumption.

anyway, do continue on the road back to health! (hope the chicken strips were yummy)

I could keep up the sundae consumption but drop some of the other excess sugar from my menu. Or actually start exercising...

Decisions, decisions.

I've found the weight loss associated with illness to be the most surprising, since it seems to just vanish into thin air. I say this as someone who hasn't met a dairy fat he didn't like.

Yeah, perhaps I should look upon this as an opportunity to indulge myself in an extra scoop cone gallon of ice cream some time soon... :-)

Hey, that's what voice posts are for. All you need is a phone. ;)

Did you get any of this wintry mix stuff we got?

[identity profile] bjarvis.livejournal.com 2007-01-18 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
No wintry mix yet. We've been promised such, but I'm braced for disappointment yet again. :-(
