Being a tourist in DC

Andrew M has been visiting from NYC this weekend. After attending a meeting of the 2009 IAGSDC convention this afternoon, [livejournal.com profile] kent4str and I collected Andrew in downtown DC,then went for a walk through the FDR Memorial and along the Potomac.

Being an idiot, I didn't think to take my camera. The evening lighting and brilliant leaves would have made for superb photos but the following will have to do, feebly captured with my cell phone. sigh

They're beautiful pictures! I think the softer look adds to them.

Heading into the dreaded federal offices today to have more immigration woohoo done. I'm clearly a dirty foreigner who needs punishment or something.

Oh, joy... love working with the fine folks of the immigration bureau. Thank god my green card is good for another five years.

Your what is what? I didn't realize there was such a thing as a term-limited green card.

Yep, good for ten years at a time, generally. My first one was good only for two years, as I came on a marriage-based visa.

Yup, the card is good for 10 years. Renewal is generally pro forma; outside of getting a new photo, it should be a trivial process.

Holy cow. It was not only quick, but it was painless, and she was helpful and pleasant. Kudos to Miss Stern!
