Going' on a cruise!

The Caribbean? The Mediterranean? The coast of Alaska? Nope.

The Potomac.

My engineering division is going on a midday cruise on the Potomac River September 20. We found out this morning. That's not enough warning to reschedule a lot of meetings, training sessions, etc., so the best we can hope for is a significant portion of our team attending... Why do managers do dumb things like that?

I suppose I should be grateful for the reward but frankly, I'd prefer a day off instead. Or a week of jeans days.

Nothing quite like being trapped on a boat of straight people attempting to dance. If you hear on the evening news about some geek escaping a cruise in a lifeboat, you'll know why.

"Nothing quite like being trapped on a boat of straight people attempting to dance." That conjures up an amusing image :)

Engineers trying to dance, no less!

What discipline of engineering? Civil? Mechanical? Chemical? The image becomes funnier as I go down the list in my head. I work with civil/municipal/structural engineers. Their softabll games are pretty hilarious to watch.

Nothing so advanced... they're all geeks: UNIX, database and networking folks. This could get really ugly...

How about teaching a square dance?

I just read an article in the CDSS newsletter about Amy Cann (a fiddler and contra dance caller) teaching inmates in a low intensity vermont prison to Contra Dance and they had lots of fun.

How about teaching a square dance?

Not gonna happen.

I keep an extremely high, broad and well-defended wall between my office/work-related activities and my home/social-related activities. My life is complicated enough without mixing the two even slightly.

It could be worse... It could be an evening dinner cruise without YOUR specific spouse. Been there, done that, not a good time.
