Baltimore Pride Festival

If you're in the vicinity of Druid Hill Park tomorrow (Sun, June 18) for the Baltimore Pride Festival, come by the country/western dance pavillion to say hi!  Kent & I will be conducting "intro to square dancing" sessions at 12, 2 & 4 PM.

I'd be interested in knowing how this turned out.

For several years our contradance group tried contradancing in the pride march (see this writeup) and it was really tough. Since then we have shared a booth with Gays for Patsy (2-stepping), Boston Uncommons (squares), and our contra dance and English Country dance groups. This year was a wash-out because of the rains; last year it was pretty good; we danced and some others joined in. Since we always have a contra dance that night we hope to get a few new dancers and we have gotten some.

Last year, we had a full afternoon of square dancing, line dancing & two-stepping. It was all sponsored by the Chesapeake Squares but Kent & I only worried about the square dancing portion. We had some four squares on the dance floor most of the time, with 80% newbies. I'm not entirely sure how many of our newer MS dancers were ensnared during the pride day festivities so I'm not sure if it works for recruitment purposes. It does help maintain a public profile though, and that's half the marketing battle.
