Survived Another Pride Day

[livejournal.com profile] kent4str and I left home around noon, heading into downtown DC for today's pride festival. Thanks to a generous co-worker of [livejournal.com profile] kent4str, we had parking pass to allow us to stow the minivan at [livejournal.com profile] kent4str's office, just a few blocks away from the festivities.

We went directly to the DC Lambda Squares booth to stow our stuff before scoping out the immediate area of the arts stage run by the DC LGBT Arts Consortium (DCLS is a member, as are most of the other organizations with which we have volunteered in various capacities over the past decade).

[livejournal.com profile] kent4str's singing ensemble, Ties Optional, was on at 1:50 PM sharp and performed a short set of three numbers, all well received by an attentive audience.

After [livejournal.com profile] kent4str's quick costume change, we were both on stage calling three singing tips with two squares from the DC Lambda Squares. I'm delighted to report all went ahead without a hitch: we kept the choreo trivially simple and sequences short, and we kept a fairly large audience enraptured. I remembered to put in generous plugs between sets for our upcoming open houses, our booth and our web site so I'm declaring victory. It will be interesting to see what kind of turn-out we get for our Monday, June 19 open house.

Once off the stage, we were officially off duty. Leaving our stuff at the DCLS table, we toured the rest of the festivities to see what was on display, meet & greet with people we haven't seen in a while and generally look around. I have 60+ photos to sort through, crop & label for my web site; I'll post a notice when they're ready but they will likely wait until I'm home from Toronto later in the week.

We left the festival around 4:30 PM, stopped at [livejournal.com profile] kent4str's office pantry for a quick cold drink, then headed for home. We detoured slightly for dinner at Mi Rancho but were home by shortly after 6 PM. Just in time... my feet are killing me.

Happy Pride

I'm glad everything went so smoothly for you. Our Pride is next weekend; unfortunately, it's during the AACE. So I will be leaving AACE to go and call at Pride Saturday afternoon for about 3 hours, and then back to AACE in the evening. It looks to be a very busy weekend.
Sorry about the loss of your Aunt Gail; I hope things go well in Canada for you.

Ouch! Yeah, that's a painful schedule conflict between AACE and the pride festivities.

It sounds like the funeral plans are rolling along as expected back in Canada; I should be safely arriving at my ex's house in Toronto about 12 hours from now and most of the drama will be completed 24 hours after that. Thanks for the kind thoughts!

I hope to be as happy about being over our Pride at this time next week. It will be a crazy week, with AACE and Pride on Saturday, it will be packed with excitement.

I'd also like to express my sympathy on the loss of your aunt. Know that I'm thinking of the both of you - Brian as you travel to your family and the both of you as you spend this time apart.

Nice running into y'all on our way out.

We should run into each other like that again some time soon, although perhaps in a place a little less public... :-)
