Thanksgiving Report
Much of yesterday was a largely uneventful affair. Most significant to me (outside of a visit from friends later in the day) was simply that it was the first of a five day long weekend for me, and I really need the rest.
Kent's office gave him (and the rest of the paralegal staff) a smoked turkey as a present so he spent the larger portion of the afternoon cooking the turkey, an array of vegetables and generally dashing about the kitchen. I busied myself cleaning up the living room a little --I had various working papers strewn everywhere-- and digging out the dining room table for dinner. I did manage to finally stuff most of the developed photos into an album but with 50 still left to go, the current album is groaning in pain and I've run out of inserts. I'll have to order more when an opportunity arises.
Long-time friend Jeff M. arrived in mid-afternoon, with a new friend of his, Larry. Larry seems to be a sweet guy, which of course makes perfect sense as Jeff wouldn't bring along anyone less than nice. Larry recently moved to the area and still seems to be building a network of friends but it turns out we already know a large number of people in common in DC, KY and a handful of other states. Go figure. With a little luck, we'll see more of Larry in the future.
Dinner was wonderful: Kent did his usual kitchen magic, although the smoke detector had to be demoted to the bedroom because of a false alarm. We ate until we were groaning, rested a bit, then ate some more. Figures... I had finally worked off all of the weight I gained during the Harper's Ferry Hoedown two weeks ago.
Jeff made a suggestion of going ice skating later in the evening (the local rink is open until 11 PM) but we were much too lethargic/piggishly obese to give it serious consideration. As Jeff pointed out, skating would require bending over to tie skates, something that just wasn't in the cards until more digestion had occurred. We do have a tentative date to go on Sunday in Arlington though.
I spent the rest of the evening playing with iTunes, looking for more music suitable for square dancing. I've selected eight pieces but on later listening, have whittled the list down to six. They're in the laptop now, cued up in the database with appropriate loop start/end points and speed adjustments as needed.
