Birthday Musings
Today sometime in mid-morning, I turned 39, my last scheduled stop before cruising into 40.
At this point in my life, I'm almost precisely twice my age when I left the family farm in northern Ontario to strike out on my own.
Among other milestones, it's been:
My life currently bears no resemblance whatsoever to what I had envisioned when I boarded a south-bound train in 1986. I'm a little disappointed in myself that certain goals haven't been met yet but others have been far exceeded and I've discovered paths & options which couldn't have anticipated so I'm giving myself a passing grade for things accomplished thus far. Shattered dreams can sometimes make beautiful kaleidoscopes.
There's still so much to do in the next 39 years... I'd better get busy.

Among other milestones, it's been:
- 20 years since graduating from New Liskeard Secondary School (grade 13, of course, when it existed);
- 18 years since crashing & burning at the University of Waterloo;
- 16 years since coming out of the closet;
- 15 years since starting to work for the University of Toronto;
- 14 years since purchasing my first house (jointly with my ex, John);
- 14 years since assisting the founding of Singing Out! The Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Toronto;
- a bit more than ten years since I met Kent (and through him big sis
paigemom); - a bit less than ten years since I moved to the US;
- five years since I finally finished my BSc at the University of Maryland;
- three years since I started my MSc at U of M, almost a year since I finished it;
- 20 months since I picked up a microphone (to attempt) to call a square dance;
- 6 months since I was absorbed into the LiveJournal borg collective.

And while we're subtly insulting your aging self, I might note that you have never looked better. But that could be my aging eyes deceiving me!

There's always the Jack Benny approach and staying 39 indefinitely.

Get busy! You've got 39 years to do lots of things.
And enjoy your cake and ice cream. Remember, resistance is futile.

This gave me pause, because in combination with the (shocklng) realization that the Toronto motss.con was nearly 15 years ago, which indicates that you were fairly recently out at that time, which I would never have guessed.
Happy Birthday! I'll remind you that I was past 50 by the time you and I got around to... um... something or other... um... Well, all I'm saying is that there's lots of fun ahead still!
