Reason 528,290 to Despise Comcast

In our latest cable bill, there is fine print on the back of the second page which indicates that the Country Music Television channel will be moved from our regular service to the digital channel service as of December 31. If we want to keep it, we'll have to pay through the nose (again) for it.

How are we going to get our daily Tim McGraw fix now? sigh

oh man, that sucks. If I didn't see Sugarland's Kristen on a regular basis I would just die.

On the other hand, I bet you get Bravo. It's not even *available* here, not at any price.

Unfortunately, slowly but surely, their entire line up will be digital. This is mainly to free up space for more HD programming.

It is inevitable, but I'd prefer they just did The Big Cutover one day rather than death by a thousand papercuts.

I esitimate that to hold onto the same channels we had a year ago under analog, we will need to pay $20-$25 more per month if we went digital currently. On top of our current $55 bill, that's too much. When Comcast finally does cut over a couple of Kent's favourite channels, we'll likely jettison them in favour of satellite.

Or Ray Scott, or Trace Atkins... *sigh*

I hate Comcast with a passion but they have me by the balls as I have NO other choice for cable or internet. :'(

By an amazing coincidence, the customer I'm working with this week is... drum roll... Comcast.

I have Comcast cable at home myself. I quickly discovered that it does no good to make complaints to the internal folks... they're just as much hostages of the marketing and customer service people as we are.

With that said, Comcast pricing and channel line-up vary all over the place. It's part whatever-the-market-will-bear and part coping with competition; in the Boston area, they have to contend with both satellite and a second cable company called RCN.

In my area "basic cable" is pretty damned cheap at < $10, but you get what you pay for... very little aside from local broadcast channels. The next tier up is "digital classic", a big jump to about $55 a month, but with about 90% of the stuff I'm even vaguely interested in. So I really don't have much of a choice if I want any cable channels at all.

Tim McGraw is fixed? But his voice sounds too deep for that!

I'm not sure what the rate is locally for just the basic. Kent wants Cartoon Network, SciFi and a couple of others so we've always been doomed to their variety package (whatever they call it now). Since he also insists on having a TV in the bedroom as well as the living room, we're paying more than we need to (in my humble and somewhat bitchy opinion anyway).

Perhaps the rate increases for next year will be enough to help persuade him to ditch the bedroom one. And perhaps pigs will fly. sigh

After puberty, it wouldn't matter.

If I could get past his security and Faith Hill, I'd be happy to examine him very thoroughly to determine precisely how "fully functional" he might be. I'm a believer in (im)proper & thorough scientific research.

Comcast basic in Baltimore is also $10, but I'm planning on canceling my Comcast account completely pretty soon. I no longer watch broadcast television at all and I can get DSL for far less money.
