Columbus Weekend

After leaving my office Friday afternoon, I met up with [livejournal.com profile] cuyahogarvr and [livejournal.com profile] kent4str to drive to Columbus, OH. Despite heavy rain in Maryland and a later departure than planned, we were still in the greater Columbus area in good time.

In fact, we arrived early enough we could drop by Jeff & Ed's place to join the Columbus bear group's holiday party. I sometimes think we know more people in Ohio than we do in DC: we knew at least one third of the hoards o' men attending.

Saturday was largely spent sleeping in, then doing a little shopping in Lancaster, OH, near the home of our local hosts [livejournal.com profile] jearbear65oh and David. The entire purpose of the trip was David's 40th birthday, despite him looking barely a day over 30. (Bitch.) After a brief nap at home, we headed to the Columbus downtown for David's party.

I was once again surprised how many of the people attending we knew. Yes, the odds were better since we were already familiar with their friends for over a decade, but it's an odd feeling to drop into a city several states away and feel so completely at home.

I took lots of photos of the party; once I get names for the small handful of people I didn't know initially, I'll get them posted on Flickr or something. Well, except for the collection of pictures of me snogging one hot guy or another. :-)

By Sunday, it was time for us to depart and head to Cleveland. The weather had turned cold and threatened snow overnight but we are happy to report that our flight was not cancelled, just slightly delayed. Even the turbulence as we flew out of Cleveland was relatively mild compared to what we had anticipated.
