Saturday Night

After a day of largely lounging around the house and being hopelessly domestic, we went to the C1/C2 square dance sponsored by the Mid Atlantic Challenge Association and called by [livejournal.com profile] justetthon and John Marshall.

The C2 sessions were --very reasonably-- full C2 so I couldn't dance those but I was able to watch and understand most of the calls.

My C1 dancing went pretty well. Yeah, I (and others) made a few mistakes but it was generally a strong floor so our square self-corrected pretty well nearly every time something went off. Perfect execution is great, but recovery is a pretty good backup strategy. :-)

During one particular tip, my partner and I were in a square where half of the dancers were slow, shuffling dancers. In any particular call where clearly 4-6 footsteps might be required, they were only willing or able to do 2-3 footsteps. The calling was relatively quick so Cissie and I had to move double-speed in an attempt to preserve the fundamental formation and a fraction of the flow. Fortunately, this wasn't difficult although I was overheating from the exertion by the end of the tip.

When we returned home, our first snow of the season which had been falling in the early evening had already started melting away as the temperature nudged just barely above freezing. *sigh* I did manage to snap this shot of my car though:

What is this snow you speak of?

Damn. On first read it was "hopelessly romantic" - I continued to read eagerly for a moment, smiling in anticipation. Then at myself as I find you've written about dancing...

It's the white fluffy stuff that falls from the sky and makes life worth living.

Oh -- manna! I learned about that in Sunday School.

Trade

If you would like, I will trade you snow piles. But then, I am sure you have seen it up here already.
