No Electricity

Well, the power has failed here at home. Indeed, a large swath of the area is without electricity, taking out the traffic lights. From radio reports, most of the side streets I would have used for my home-ward commute were closed because of downed trees. In all, it took two hours to get home instead of 35 minutes.

At the moment, the DSL modem & router are running on UPS power and my laptop is on batteries. The other computers are powered down. We've opted to not attempt square dancing tonight because of the threat of further storms later tonight so we're sitting at home with nothing to do. Figures.

Edit: Right now, I'm so glad I have one of these since the basement computer room has no windows.

You could fornicate.

At the moment, I'm far too stressed to even consider the possibility.

Yes, I'm that stressed.

Let me stroke you gently in the dark until you relax...

Trivial Pursuit!

TGIF! (ask the big fuzzy one to explain this)

Oh, I know that story... "What four letters appear on the cross above Jesus?"

Oh, good :) That's too good a story not to share!

True story: My brother-in-law gave that answer to that question when we were all playing Trivial Pursuit. I suspect it's happened more than a few times.

By the way, my other sister guessed "RSVP".

this little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine

I spoze this would be hopelessly low-tech for you...

The four letters are INRI.
Which stand for I'm Nailed Right In

or
I'm Not Really Immaculate.

pickypickypicky!

although not a light source, I do know that computers (designed for very low-tech areas - the african savannah was where the example was shown) are now designed to work on clockwork. You need an elevated tree branch or something high-ish up, throw over a rope, and the actual motive power for a microgenerator is falling weights (just like in a grandfather clock).

I'm surprised you-all don't have this backup technology.... it really IS an uninterruptible power supply, as long as you remember to elevate the weights occasionally, and the law of gravity continues to apply.

AND it generates no heat at all. I tell ya, it's a win-win situation!

The British.

Or my dog. Take your pick.

Oh, God - he's going to want to remodel the house now for a longer drop.
