Passport Success!
My replacement passport has not yet arrived, but Passport Canada has billed my TD Canada Trust credit card $97 CDN ($105.13 USD) in processing fees.
On the presumption that they wouldn't bill my card unless they accepted my application as is, I should have a new passport in a few weeks and will be able to enter Canada via air or boat once again.

Yup, a friend local in DC who is a lawyer with the Dept of Justice. There was some question about my application since he was a valid guarantor under the old rules but not under the new rules. I'm glad to see Passport Canada saw fit to allow my application.
There was also some question that the photos had a little too much reflection off my rosy complexion but they seemed to have been accepted nonetheless.

As we learned a couple of years ago, the fact that the US passport office has accepted your money means nothing except that they received your application.
