Wolf Gap Hike

Every April, a bunch of us head out to Wolf Gap along the Virginia/West Virginia border for a hike to a rock formation known as Big Schloss.

Unfortunately, neither [livejournal.com profile] kent4str nor [livejournal.com profile] cuyahogarvr could make it this year as originally planned. Still, we had our hike organizer, Jeff M, along with Patrick, Paul, Eric, Wayne, Steve, Jeff C, Howard and Alan.

We left the base camp area to begin our hike around 11 AM, arriving at the Big Schloss formation almost 2 hours later. After relaxing in the sun, eating lunch and taking numerous photos, we began the second portion of the hike, a series of switchback trails down the opposite side of the ridge. We soaked our tired & sore feet in a creek of crystal-clear water at the of the hike, then headed back to DC with a brief stop at the nearby Diary Queen.

There are many photos now up on my web site. Here's a close-up of me below, doing my best Indiana Jones impression.

I always love checking out your photos. It's odd, but they always load slowly for me... but they're generally worth the wait. Comments: (1) Isn't Paul hawt in his kilt! (2) Shirtlessness is a very nice thing. (3) I'm glad you joined the ranks of the shirtless in the "survivor" picture. Too bad they can't save all that wattage and store it in lightbulbs... ;-)

Let's hear it for Spring!

Woofs to Wayne. Damm that looks like fun. We've met before in DC through Jeff. Actually taking this hike this coming weekend. Thanks for the pics.

That's your best Indiana Jones imitation? What about a whip? What about tilting your head a bit?

Unlike the fictional Indiana Jones, I wasn't named after the dog.

And have you priced whips lately? Very pricey.

(1) Paul is very hawt. So is Eric. And esp Patrick. *sigh*

As for (2) and (3), the downside of shirtlessness is a rapid sunburn for folks like me who don't tan worth a damn and get horrendous skin rashes from commercial sunblocks. My exposure to UV is kept to an absolutely minimum by necessity.
