My Dear Employer has two engineering positions open in Backup Support in Reston, VA, and/or Urbana, MD!
Description
Job entails working with existing team to maintain and enhance a complex Netbackup backup infrastructure to ensure recoverability for hundreds of TB of application data spread across a few thousand SUN, AIX, Windows, Linux, and VMWARE servers.
Work with peer teams to maintain and enhance backup environment, consisting of Symantec Veritas Netbackup, Virtual Tape Libraries, StorageTek tape libraries, SAN, and UNIX Netbackup Master and Media servers.
Provide second level support for production backups/recoveries, ensuring backup and recovery SLAs are being met.
Perform Capacity and Performance Management for Backup Infrastructure.
Maintain up-to-date documentation and provide training as required.
Provide automation to increase effectiveness of backup solution and to enhance monitoring and reporting.
Assist in researching, evaluating, and implementing backup technologies, procedures, and processes to increase backup application reliability, stability, and availability.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Business, MIS, or related field, or equivalent work experience. Four to five years of experience in varied technical positions, including experience with development and systems implementation (infrastructure development and/or support experience preferred).
Symantec Veritas Netbackup – In-depth knowledge of the product, including installation, configuration, tuning, and trouble-shooting. (2 Years Experience working in a large scale backup environment)
UNIX – Must have experience with adding and configuring hardware on a UNIX server, with trouble-shooting performance and configuration problems, and with scripting. (2 Years Experience) (SUN and AIX experience preferred)
Tape Hardware – Must have experience with tape libraries and drives. (1 Year Experience) (StorageTek Silo experience preferred. Virtual Tape Library experience is a plus.)
Ethernet – Must have experience with trouble-shooting Network connectivity and performance problems.
Desired – SAN knowledge and experience.
Desired – Backup/recovery experience with Oracle, Sybase, Windows, and Microsoft Exchange.
