Cleveland, Day 2

Yesterday evening's square dancing was much fun.

The potluck dinner buffet began on time around 6:30 PM; the kitchen staff & coordinators kept the tables full and lines moving, feeing 100+ dancers very quickly and efficiently. After a short time to digest, the dancers were ushered into the upstairs hall while the downstairs hall was cleared to open up additional dance space for later in the evening.

Our callers this year are Nick Martellacci and Gary Monday; both were in good voice and form this evening. The dancers though... not so much. :-)

There's a bit of a heat wave here in Cleveland: it's hot and humid, and neither the dance hall nor [livejournal.com profile] cuyahogarvr's apartment have air conditioning. Despite our best efforts with the strategic placement of fans, we were struggling against the heat. Delicate thing than I am, I could barely dance a tip per half-hour before being forced from the hall to seek a breeze out on the fire escape.

We did dress up for the leather tip at 9 PM but again, the heat prevented me from dancing more than one tip. I did get a few photos though, the bulk of which will be posted later. Here's a quick sample:

I didn't dance a step the rest of the evening: jeans were too hot to dance in.

After the evening's events wrapped up around 11 PM, a large contingent headed back to the home of Dr. Mark and Brian to crash in the living room with hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. We relaxed, chatted, laughed and ultimately headed back to the apartment at 1 AM.

The heat, alas, is affecting my love life. It was still so warm in the bedroom that by 2 AM, I had to head to the spare bedroom: my own body heat and that of the hubbies was too uncomfortable for me to sleep. Even in the guestroom, sleep was difficult but I did manage to snooze a little before the first rays of dawn began baking me anew.
