As mentioned previously, my engineering division at the office went on a lunchtime cruise on the Potomac River out of south-west DC yesterday. More precisely, about one third went Wednesday, about half will attend today's cruise and the rest either don't care for the cruise or couldn't rearrange their schedule to accommodate the abysmal lack of advanced warning on the part of the event coordinators. I was only "allowed" to attend because I could telephone into two conference calls via cell phone. Nevertheless...

Yup, that's me in full business drag, identifiable by (a) the lack of jeans, and (b) the batman utility belt: cell phone, palm pilot, pager and ID badge, all with the tasteful inclusion of my camera case shoulder strap.
I had a decent time. There were only a few people on board I actually knew. Since I prefer to keep a metaphoric Berlin wall between my working life and my social life, I wasn't particularly interested in extending my social network by interacting much. For the most part, I kept to myself, took photos from the deck and chatted with the 2-3 people present who I do think of as friends.
The downside of spending so much time on the deck away from the crowds and the dance floor is that my face is now a shade of bright pink, not burned but pretty close. I look like a traffic stop light. Lovely. Good thing the above photo was taken
before the cruise departed.
In all, it was a relatively relaxing day although I'm going to have to make up for the lost office time with extended hours today, especially since I'm taking tomorrow off to go to the trailer.
